coaching as a profession
Coaching as a profession is a relatively recent phenomenon, whose early origins can be traced back to the late 70s, followed by a relatively explosive growth since the 90s.
This growth has been characterised by the rapidly rising number of coaching and self help books, the popularisation of the coaching in the corporate world as well as in personal development circles and the increasing search for a coaching profession. The coaching movement has become a central feature of corporate life in the 21st century, spanning organisational, executive, performance and remedial coaching, as well as mentoring and other types of coaching within specific corporate contexts. Within this context Life Coaching has developed significantly whereby many individuals seek a coach to change areas in a their personal life where they experience not fulfilling their potential.
They may feel stuck and frustrated about the direction of their life, are in a mid life or existential crisis where they need some support. Such coaching is normally driven from a personal desire to improve, develop or change and bring greater purpose and meaning to their lives.
Psychosynthesis coaching
This is characterised by the context of seeing the coachee (whether an organisational leader or a private individual) as a unique being (a Self in Psychosynthesis terms), characterised by a deep sense of aspiration and drive to be the best they can be. Although many people being coached, initially have only a 'dim' sense of who and what they can be, they often know that they will not rest until they realise their unique potential. Psychosynthesis coaching therefore is a context for working with the realisation and expression of this Self whether as leader of a small or global organisation or an individual who wants to live a life to the full.
Why train as a coach?
To 'hold' and support corporate leaders and individuals in this way as their unique Self is facilitated requires a depth of training that few coaching trainings provide. Students are trained in a psychospiritual context and within this they learn to evoke Self and help the coachee live that day to day. With this training students will create a coaching practice that brings magic and meaning not only to their clients lives and work but also to their own in terms of self fulfilment and deep joy.
